RESEARCHING TOGETHER: engaging minds provides valuable support for all library professionals. Designed to be used by collaborative teams of teachers and teacher-librarians, this learning and teaching resource will enhance professional development sessions and enable teams to:

  • reflect on current practice
  • develop design briefs identifying outcomes and curriculum needs
  • discuss and implement strategies for collecting evidence to measure success

Professional development provides collaborative learning teams with a variety of practical tools:

  • .Research formats in template form, supplied in html, Word and PowerPoint to provide the scaffolding to customise your own school’s online curriculum design and delivery hosted by your school Intranet
  • Online resources and information to enhance your knowledge of higher order thinking skills, questioning techniques and inquiry based learning to support your student’s learning styles and encourage strategies to develop independent learners
  • .Library Essentials provides samples of materials that can be used to enhance your library program. Online and print resources will support information literacy and encourage the strategic use of ICT to promote a knowledge sharing community where students are connected to real life experiences
  • In .Evidence you will learn about evidence based practices to challenge and support student thinking and skill application. Also included is the importance of documenting your progress as a learning team

Usually, templates have been supplied in three file types - as a Word, PowerPoint and HTML file. The templates have been formatted minimally to facilitate easier user customisation. Elements of any template can be combined to suit individual needs. In some instances, there are examples which can be viewed to gain ideas as to how the templates can be used. These examples may not strictly follow the layout/order of the respective templates as these have been designed with user customisation in mind. The examples match the .Victorian Essential Learning Standards and support the .Principles of Learning and Teaching.

The HTML files can be integrated into any library website, school network and/or free space on the Internet to enable 24/7 access by teachers and students. However, due to the complexities of Internet protocols, this will most likely require the involvement of the school's IT specialist and this should be discussed with him/her early on in the implementation process.
